shadow concealing
colour, colour
shedding cells
*
oily
rivulets of a marble
morning
*
scum
sky discern
garble
*
a / an / the / this
oblique lagoon
licorice gully
*
skittish, skittles
(perhaps also kite)
*
lapse in
limbo
fencing
on the fence
*
colt kith
kid queen
*
swarms of absurd answers
*
24/7 smacked
by demos
*
plastic rubber plant
baby’s breath on desk
green walls and phone
world without end
*
Zigzag the grid
home. Then zigzag
some more.
*
waxy-petalled moat hemming
orange brick ranch
ennui
*
Limp jack-in-the-box gazes side-
ways at the ancient TV’s
white dot in the midst
of a green sea,
dwindling
to
*
Nostalgia pierces layers
of sediment and commences
its daily climb.
*
Dream I tell a friend about a dream
the night before, wading
in a shallow polar
ocean.
*
blunt
rose rubbed to
carnelian
*
Glacial rocks
carve odes to currents
no longer swum.

Camille Martin is the author of four collections of poetry, most recently Looms (2012) and Sonnets (2010), both from Shearsman Books. She lives in Toronto. Her blog: http://rogueembryo.com. And her website: http://www.camillemartin.ca.
My poems in this issue of Talisman are from R Is the Artichoke of Rose, a manuscript of minimalist poems ranging from one word to several lines. I've been writing them for many years, and recently they started coalescing into a book-length work. Inspiration over the years has come from poets who thrive in the short form such as Rae Armantrout, Nelson Ball, Basho, Craig Dworkin, Geoffrey Gatza, Anselm Hollo, Richard Kostelanetz, Martial, Ron Padgett, Tom Raworth, Aram Saroyan, and Mark Truscott. No doubt I’m leaving out some, but these come to mind.
